Are you Ready for MiFID II?

The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive is the EU legislation that regulates firms who provide services to clients linked to ‘financial instruments’ (shares, bonds, units in collective investment schemes and derivatives), and the venues where those instruments are traded.

What does that mean to you and how can we help you?

Do you give financial advice over the telephone?

All calls now must be recorded, and the data stored securely. If those calls aren’t stored securely, you’re gambling 15% of your turnover as a fine after 3rd January. It’s OK though, we can help. We can set up a hosted phone service that includes shipping new IP handsets to you for delivery next business day. Combine this with a call recording system that automatically records all calls and stores them securely for five years, while also meeting PCI requirements, and you will be compliant for considerably less than 15% of your turnover.

Unlike legacy call recording solutions that require hardware installation, the costs of which are generally very high, requiring expert personnel, software licenses and the hardware itself, as well as maintenance contracts, our cloud-hosted call recording systems take all that worry away and are more secure than an on-site arrangement. The calls themselves can be searched, tagged, filtered, shared and downloaded using a very intuitive online platform.

To find out more about how you can benefit from this MiFID II-compliant, flexible system that will future-proof your business, contact us now via the form below to discuss your requirements!

We are also holding a free informational event on MiFID II at the Innovation Centre Medway, on Wednesday 6th December at 13:30.

And……We are back!! Kicking off with conference calls for dummies

I bet you have missed us.  Of course you have, I mean, an informative, Kent based, VoIP serving, call cost saving, number crunching, WiFi enabled, hosted phone, intellectual, fun based blog?  This key word loaded intro will please our marketing manager……and make me look super intelligent into the bargain!

So, the web site crashed.  Well not so much crashed, more dive bombed into obscurity.  This is the time you realise you should be backing everything up daily to the cloud  My job was to go back into our browsing history and screen shot all the pages I had worked on or looked at and save them with the  hope we had all we needed to re build it.  What a paddymalarky.  However, it’s always good to see with hindsight what we should have done, but didn’t.  There is never a mistake in this office, just an opportunity to learn.

Talking to The Guv’nor last week he asked how my blogs were going.  I told him, nowhere.  I hadn’t been writing any.  Well, I said, ‘where am I going to put them? Our web site is down and up to now, that’s where I was putting them’ But the Guv’nor had a cunning plan.  He wanted me to re start them (apparently, I have a following!!) but then, just in time, the new web site is live! Phew, I don’t have to learn another social media platform.

Putting fingers to the keyboard, I started to think about what’s been happening here in Connect-it Towers since my last blog; where to start?

As I was pondering , I noticed  a large black gadget on the desk.  It makes me think of Star Trek, yes, I am a trekkie, I confess.  It is a cool bit of kit for Conference calls.  Do you need to make them?  Do you want a device that allows all delegates to be heard as if they were in the room with you? Are you a techie person?  You know, like your gadgets and space age looking gizmos? We have just set one of these little beauties up……. a Polycom RealPresence Trio 8800 Conference VoIP phone, expensive but cool; they cost around £900-£1k each!  Not for the faint -hearted,  unless you have deep pockets.

This is Chatham meets the Klingons technology.  Andrew has been playing with it ready for a client.  It’s such a clever bit of kit, incorporating a touch phone screen and not only does RealPresence Trio break through the sound barrier by providing the most amazing sound quality, but it also serves as the smart hub for your group collaboration and bringing easy-to-use, no-compromise visual collaboration to spaces that were previously cost prohibitive.

However, a more cost-effective solution, and we are all about cost savings,  is a virtual number with a conference bridge.  A conference bridge, allows a group of people to participate in a phone call. All you need to do is buy a virtual number; with us, it is a one off set up cost of £45, then £10 per month. Simples. You, as the organiser, set up a pin number on the virtual number you have control over.  You send the pin number to all those you want to include in the conference call.

Your participants dial the number you have purchased, enter the pin you have given them, and they will be asked to say their name. You, as the organiser, will hear each name as they enter the conference.  Job done! You can dial in to the virtual number from any phone including a mobile. If this sounds like a useful tool for you to have, give us a call on 03456885122 and speak to Andrew (don’t tell him I suggested this…)

I suppose I had better get on with some real work.  The connect-it team are all beavering away here as usual.  We do work hard but have fun too.  Not sure Jin was too impressed on Friday when we tweeted a photo of our end of the week with a glass of prosecco in hand and she wasn’t here to share it with us.  Oh well Jin, you had better make sure you get into the office more often then!

Have a great day everyone, just because you can choose to do so; and its good to be back!
